Youth Classes (ages 8-14)

FENCING & STAGE COMBAT
(Two Day Workshop)
Feb 13 & 20, 2016
(Saturdays, 10 – 1 pm)
4 – 8th grade

In a safe environment, students are taught the basics of fencing, hand-to-hand combat and the use of different weapons. In this 2-session workshop, students learn choreography applied to Shakespearean scenes, as well as a group “battle”. Both are performed on the last class day. Must attend both sessions

SPRING SESSION: Playwriting & Performing

March 5 – May 14, 2016*
 (Saturdays, 10 – 1)
*No class March 26
4 – 8th grade
FEE: $380

Using improvisation and creative writing exercises, students create an original play in this 10-week session. Everyone contributes ideas and participates in the writing process. Each student also receives individual coaching on a Shakespeare monologue or scene, specially chosen for them by the teacher. Both the play and Shakespeare are performed on the last day of class. Ability for sustained concentration required.

SUMMER SESSION: Youth Drama Camp

June 14- July 14, 2016
Tues. Wed. Thurs., 9 am – 3 pm
Ages 8 – 14
FEE: $745

This 5-week, 90-hour camp, in its 37th year, is held in Theatricum’s beautiful outdoor amphitheater and surrounding grounds. Campers participate
in theatre technique workshops that emphasize the building of a closely
knit ensemble. Each group culminates with a performance of an edited Shakespeare play. Tuition includes an 8×10 group photo, camp T-shirt and 2 tickets to the final performance. Our technique classes include:

Fencing – Theatre Games – Improvisation – Voice & Speech
Elizabethan Dance & Song – Stage Combat – Costumes & Props
Acting Shakespeare: Rehearsal & Performance

Is Youth Drama Camp right for your child? Consider that the camp is designed to excite young people to Shakespeare through ensemble storytelling techniques. Children who enjoy working in a group and have the ability for sustained concentration will have fun and flourish in our camp. Your child must be able to attend the full session, plus performance dates
in order to apply. A $300 deposit is required to confirm your reservation. balance of $445 is due on or before May 24. After-camp care is available for an additional fee.

Your child will perform on ONE of the following days:
Saturday, July 16 or Sunday, July 17.

FALL SESSION: Improvisation & Shakespeare
September 17 – November 5, 2016
 (Saturdays, 10 am – 1 pm)
4 – 8th grade
FEE: $345

This 8-week class covers the fundamentals of theatre improvisation techniques. Through Improvisation and concentration-building theatre games, students develop characters that are developed and honed throughout
the class. Students also receive coaching on a Shakespeare monologue to nurture their ability to perform heightened language text. Both their improvisation and Shakespeare will be presented at the final class.
