Adult Classes – Elizabethan History

Elizabethan History with Dr. Lori Anne Ferrell

DAY: Saturday
TIME: 12:30 – 2:30 pm, PDT
LOCATION: Online, via Zoom App

Prof. Lori Anne Ferrell (Claremont Graduate University) will discuss the historical context of, and contemporary events behind, Shakespeare’s plays.  Topics covered will include: succession politics, religious reformation, education, gender relations, and the nature of (female) monarchy.  We will map each student’s characters and their speeches onto these habits of Elizabethan thought and practice, discovering in the process how early modern drama reflected —  and deflected  — issues of topical social urgency and common cultural knowledge.
